At Great Pond Outdoor Adventure Center offer a variety of rentals for Active Duty, 100% disabled, retired and civilian military personnel. Those rentals include; Cabins, campsites with electric/water hook-ups, yurts, primitive campsites, canoes, kayaks, motorboats, bicycles, stand up paddleboards, fishing equipment, camping equipment. In the winter we offer snowshoes, cross-country skis, ice skates, ice fishing equipment and ice shacks.
As the Summer intern, I had the pleasure of running our daily activities for our guest. Activities included arts and crafts, stand up paddle board lessons, interpretative hikes, kayaking trips, ice cream socials, movie nights, and daily pontoon interpretative tours around the pond.

Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) covers a wide scope of operations providing Sailors and their families with the finest facilities, programs and activities to meet their recreational and social needs. MWR programs encourage positive individual values, aids retention, and provides the physical, mental and social needs of a mobile Navy. MWR program encompass Fitness & Sports, Deployed Forces Support, Recreation, Entertainment and Food & Beverage Operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists program staff with all aspects of recreational programs: assisting customers, answering questions about program offerings, instructing patrons in the proper use of equipment and/or providing game rules and oversight. Answers telephone, takes reservations for facilities or programs. Monitors activity within the assigned facility or at the assigned programs, circulating among the patrons to assist with basic use of the equipment/gear and to maintain good order and discipline. Assists with cleaning/maintaining facilities, grounds or event areas. This may include general cleaning, including bathroom and locker areas, straightening equipment and accessories, transporting/receiving supplies, transporting/setting up/breaking down and putting away displays, equipment, seating, tents, etc., and picking up trash and ensuring it is properly removed. Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, stooping, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing. Must have the ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor with frequent bending, stooping, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling and lifting of objects weighting up to 45 pounds unassisted. This position is subject to an irregular tour of duty, which may include weekends and holidays.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Must be participating in a degree program in Recreation, Fitness, Leisure Activities or a related field at an accredited college/university, and work within the guidelines prescribed.
Benefits and Opportunities
Pay is $9.00 an hour. Housing is provide in the Recreation Hall on the 2nd floor. You also have access to al recreation equipment for personal use. Maine fishing license are provide to interns, as long as they conduct programing events that involves fishing. I was also given permission to bring my dog along with me for the summer.
Achievements
Organized over 25 programs, with over 100 participants total.
Wrote a scavenger hunt for guest to work on while staying with us.
Made a geocache on Great Pond Island for guest to find.
Created a fishing report for guest to share fishing information with other guest.
Helped build an outhouse for a primitive camping site.
Helped set up a family day at Prospect Harbor Naval Station
Helped organize the 4th of July Parade
Revamped social media pages.
Re-wrote the intern guide for next years intern.
Worked with Google help desk to get out google page updated and address corrected on google maps. Previous map location was getting guest lost.
